Emme Apartments

This move has been extremely overwhelming for my daughter and me. In our previous apartment, mold issues severely worsened her asthma and overall health. We were transferred to a new unit by management, thinking we would finally be safe and able to rebuild some stability. Instead, we’ve faced constant problems and harassment. On the very day we moved in, another tenant — while running from the police — ran straight into our apartment. Not long after, the police had to be called again because of disturbances and domestic violence linked to that same tenant. On top of that, my upstairs neighbor has repeatedly harassed me and my children. He has knocked on my door late at night, screamed at me, accused me of owning stray cats in the community simply because we have pets, and even confronted

During my 12 month lease there were 9 separate fire alarm incidents, never caused by an actual fire and always in the middle of the night. The management never communicated about the fire alarms to tell residents what caused it and how it could be prevented in the future. I’ve seen in their public responses to google reviews that they blame resident behavior for the fire alarms. Unfortunately, since they refuse to communicate with the residents whenever a fire alarm happens it will continue to happen. I know people who live in Artistry, Avalon, Watergate, and Bridgewater, and none of them have issues like this with fire alarms. So either Emme manages to attract the worst residents in all of Emeryville, or this is preventable issue that the management just refuses to address.

I relocated from one Essex-managed property to Emme on September 15 after receiving written confirmation that my security deposit and prorated rent overpayment would be refunded under their 30-day policy. As of December 24, 100 days have passed, and I have received neither the refund nor any clear timeline, despite the refund being subject to a 21 day processing requirement. Throughout this period, I consistently followed up with the leasing office and my community manager and waited in good faith. Instead, Essex initially redirected me to a different leasing company, despite being the party that held legal responsibility for the refund. Beware this property does not handle water damage properly and is not concerned enough about putting the health of residents at risk. Amongst other minor management issues this is the most alarming, bandaids cannot fix this but if you want to live here this is what you will deal with.

This review is for the Emme maintenance team led by Will R. The maintenance staff here are both respectful and professional. They utilize the Residence app to answer requests and they always follow my notes and reach out before showing up. I see them working hard to keep our common areas clean; the floors are always being mopped and it’s just nice have a nice building to come home to after a long day. We really appreciate the continuity of having Will around. You can tell he treats his team with respect and empowers them to handle any issues here. Thanks to this team for making this building a nice place to live.
