Surf House Apartments

The maintenance staff get 5 stars (super responsive and great with my dog who’s big and scary looking), the office staff get 4.5 stars (minus a half star for being slow to respond to emails during lease signing) but the place overall is a 3. I’ve been here about 6 weeks and I’ve already decided I’m probably going to move at the end of my lease. The units are advertised slightly below the market rate for the area (I assumed because the complex is across the street from a smelly trash incinerator), but by the time you add up all the little fees they nickel and dime you with, you might as well just lease in a newer building in a nicer area. My wife and I have been residents here for around 7 years and AMC is the third or fourth property management company we’ve had at this complex. They’re by far doing the most for the complex as far as making major changes that make the complex better for everyone and look more up to date. A lot of remodeling has been done and major fixes that have been put off for way too long have been taken care of. A major complaint that I have is the landscaping. A lot of of the amenity areas look very nice with updated landscaping, but it seems like they just stopped when they got in between the buildings (or ran out of funding). Unfortunately, my move-in experience at this apartment complex was not great. Although my paperwork stated a February 1st start date, I had moved in a few weeks earlier and was told I could not be added to the parking pass waitlist until February 1st. Because of this, my car was towed three times. Management did not offer any assistance or solutions regarding the towing fees, despite the situation being caused by the parking policy and lack of flexibility. On February 2nd, I went to the leasing office to discuss the parking issue. I was not given a solution or an exact timeline for receiving a parking pass—only an estimated two-week wait. I can’t say enough great things about Helen and Katie at Surf House Apartments. We’ve lived here for over a year now, including moving from one apartment to another within the community, and the experience has been nothing but great. Throughout the entire process, Helen and Katie have consistently provided excellent customer service and made every transition seamless. They are always responsive, professional, and truly take the time to address any concerns. On top of that, they are incredibly kind and welcoming—not just to us, but to our dog as well, which really makes Surf House feel like a genuinely pet-friendly community. We love it here. Excellent service, staff, clean and safe community. My only complaint is the lack of stop signs in the apartment building which causes people to drive extremely fast around sharp corners with blind spots. My car has been hit and my dog and I have almost been run over. But of course, this is the tenants not the building. But stop signs would be nice.
