Island Drive Apartments

I have lived here at island drive apartments since 2021 (so about 4 years), and everything was decent up until new management took over around fall of 2024. Ultimately, the pricing for the rent is reasonable for the condition and area. Rent has been raised about $50-$75 per year thus far which I am okay with. Parking is a one time deposit, and parking is very ample and based on the number of rooms. The towing is very vicious, but if you follow the rules and babysit your friends while they park to make sure they do it correctly, you will be okay. The location is quite nice, and very conveniently located as well as quiet. The biggest issue by far is maintenance. The staff on hand are not incompetent, but they are clearly overworked and do not have the support they need to perform their duti

Very disappointing maintenance and management experience. I have lived at Island Drive Apartments for about six months, and during this time it has become very clear that many of the apartment facilities are old and constantly breaking down. Maintenance issues are frequent, and every repair takes an unreasonably long time to be addressed. For example, our kitchen garbage disposal has already broken twice within this short period. Each time, we had to submit maintenance requests and wait a long time before anything was done. The most recent issue is especially frustrating. Our disposal stopped working last Thursday, which caused the kitchen sink to clog. The problem has now lasted nearly a full week, despite submitting a maintenance request immediately. I lived here for 2 years, the walk is very convenient if you frequent the hospital you can enter from the medical school or Cancer Center. Overall the experience was more quiet than central campus, and very nice living next to the river. I highly recommend this place, but there are two recurrent issues for any future tenants. They do not respond to emails. It's like talking to a wall. I sent three emails over the course of 2 weeks this past summer, and never heard back from them - went in person to talk about it. I'm moved out now and currently emailing about the security deposit. On their end, it says it was sent but it hasn't arrived to my forwarding address. While the apartments themselves aren't newly updated, they are very nice and well-kept. The rent is reasonable, especially considering the location being directly across the street from the University of Michigan Hospital. You really can't beat the convenience. Kim the manager is truly making a difference, and it shows in so many ways. Even though she’s clearly busy, she always makes time to speak and has an approachable attitude and It shows that she cares. I love calling Island my temporary home.

I visited this community to tour looking for a new place to live. I was greeted warmly and had such a great tour. They did a great job of showing me the advantages of the community and how it would fit what I am looking for. The only reason I did not apply that day is because I do not have a confirmed move date as of yet. If I do end up needing to move to the area I will absolutely be picking this community as my next home.
