Bywater Art Lofts

I live nearby and just wanted to share what I’ve seen and heard. This building looks nothing like the photos online—those have to be over 10 years old. It’s in pretty rough shape now, like no one’s done real maintenance in forever. Outside areas are overgrown and messy, with old stuff just left behind and never cleaned up. I went to an “opening” at the gallery inside and it reeked of cigarette smoke. Same story—trash everywhere, random stuff lying around that’s clearly been untouched for years. If you didn’t know better, you might think it’s just some artsy vibe, but honestly, it just looks neglected. I’ve only ever seen residents doing any cleaning or upkeep. Never seen actual staff in all the time I’ve lived nearby. From what I understand, the place is supposed to be subsidized housing

We've got friends that have worked here and others have lived here in original #1 and now there's second set of lofts across the street right by Bywater Bakery Dauphine but they've all loved living there, security gated parking, 1st lofts have inside garage parking, but they're really nice there is a waiting list and they're different sizes but I heard they're very reasonably priced but limited amount of apartments you just have to do any type of art to qualify to stay here and I think they're related to BluePlate lofts

I don't make enough as an artist to live here. My kids used to play in the lot where the stone sculpture enclosure is, but it's gated now. I used to go to church in the art loft building but it got turned into art space for wealthier people than me.
