Walker House

I have lived here for almost 14 months now and I love it. This historic building build has a lobby like a no other building. The staff is really friendly and maintenance requests are handled in timely manner. East facing apartments on high floor offer some of the best videos you’ll get staying in Newark. The view covers Passaic river along with Harrison and Kearny and with the most iconic view of the NYC skyline. Being an avid photographer I really enjoyed taking photos from here. I had 5 huge windows that offered me views of the East and the North. Having lived in Harrison for a while I definitely got a better apartment for the same amount. I lived at Walker House for three years and had a very positive experience living there. I loved that it was only a couple of blocks from Whole Foods, across the street from the light rail, and close to both the Broad Street NJ transit station and Penn Station. I found the building management to be very responsive to any issues I had. The building itself is beautiful and is well maintained. I also found it to be very quiet; although I could hear the light rail from my unit, the light rail doesn't make noise after certain hours, and I couldn't hear my neighbors at all. I would absolutely recommend this building.

Big list of issues. Save yourself the aggravation and stay far away from this building. Thanks to my experiences the past year here I’m now a home owner. I rented a supposed PH apartment with a very large terrace on the 18th floor. It might be but for the non PH apartments above that look down on your terrace. Incompetent management led to the lobby without any staff all night. Because they all quit. Homeless people will come looking for unlocked doors after they walk in off the street. Because they know empty apartments are kept unlocked. Not to mention paper thin walls. Half the building smokes pot which permeates hallways and apartments. Many tenants move out within a year. Neighborhood is lacking decent restaurants or interesting urban attractions. Traffic on Broad Street is like I-95

They need to fire Jaime asap. The building is nice looking. The walls are thin, there were 2 fire alarms today. It smelled like sewage outside. Parking is not included. All that to mention, the GM is just unresponsive and clearly doesn't value her job. Jaime needs to get fired for a total lack of respect for us. She's unhelpful and so rude to people that live there. If you take a poll, I can name 10 neighbors that will want her fired. So many people complain. There will be another manager soon.

The lobby architecture does justice to this historic building. Apartment is newly renovated so everything is up-to date. East facing apartments have a great view and would recommend checking them out. The building staff is way good and helpful. Building amenities are modest, nothing too extraordinary. In short good place to stay.
