As a military wife and mom, my husband and I have navigated several moves and rentals together, and this latest one back to California was no exception. We were thrilled as a family when we spotted a charming home in Vista listed by VPM. It felt like it could be the perfect spot to settle in with our kids. The online application process was straightforward for both of us, and the $35 fee per applicant seemed quite reasonable. We waited patiently and followed up, thrilled to hear we’d been approved and that an “offer letter” was on its way. But what we received instead was this oddly lengthy email demanding we send a full month’s rent just to view the lease, learn about their “very specific” rental insurance requirements, or see any other terms. It struck us both as suspicious right away:

Village Property Management has done an outstanding job managing our long-term rental in Fallbrook for the past 7 years. They have done a wonderful job finding tenants. The tenants they’ve found for us have been very financially responsible, have taken good care of our property, and have stayed a long time. Lauren, Amber, Danielle, and their team, have always gone above and beyond helping us find local resources for necessary maintenance, repairs and service (like pool service).
