I do not recommend renting at Grosvenor Gardens with VG Murray. The place has the potential to be great - amazing location, historic character, great community - but the building has not been well maintained and is no longer a budget option for singles in Raleigh. Some of the many issues I experienced while living here: BIRDS LIVING IN THE WALLS, ROACHES, AND MICE. The kitchens in these studio apartments have massive holes in the walls where the fridge and oven connect to utilities. These were never properly patched up in most apartments and result in terrible pest problems. My MAIL WAS FEQUENTLY STOLEN because the building lacks a secure mail receiving area/system. PEEPING TOMS are a huge problem in the neighborhood and I often felt unsafe as a female living alone. VG failed to adequately

My experience with V.G Murray has been one of the worst customer service experiences of my life. I chose my apartment because it was affordable and located downtown which was convenient. After moving out I only received a portion of my security deposit. The reason stated was underpayment of rent, and late fees. Confused I contacted V.G. Murray and they told me that rental rates had gone up on the first of the year. I never received notice of this, and I was never once notified of underpayment. They had 122 days to simply notify me of the change via letter, email, text, or phone call once the first underpayment occurred. Rented from V G Murray for almost 7 years. The staff were always friendly, and personable. Maintenance requests were handled quickly and professionally. I would rent from them again any day. Our primary point of contact was Kim at the Saint Mary's location, and I can not speak highly enough of her. Kim always remembers us, and asks how things are with our family. She's very knowledgeable, and able to coordinate their maintenance teams incredibly well. I'd also like to mention that in the nearly 7 years of tenancy, our rent was raised by less than $100 in total, and this price was still several hundred dollars less than similar apartments in the same neighborhood.

Great company and very nice people that go above and beyond to find what you need. UPDATE: After living here for almost 6 months, I stand by my first review. I have not seen bugs, I have had no maintenance issues that were left unresolved, the property is a little dated but is not a slum or in bad shape at all and I actually love it more than the "luxury apartments" I was living in in Brier Creek prior, and I find Carl and V.G., the only two I have met, to be very friendly and professional. I always suggest them to anyone I know of that is looking for a place.

PROPERTY OWNERS LOOKING FOR A RENTAL COMPANY BEWARE. VG Murray has been negligent as a rental manager. He allowed one of my properties to be destroyed by tenants. They were allowed to make changes to the inside and the outside of the property. It has cost thousands to repair. The property was also unable to be rented for 9 months.. VG said he sued the tenant for the damage done. There is no proof of this. The tenant told me that she called VG to ask if she could come by to pick up plants she left behind 8 months after she moved out. She said VG allowed this. VG told me she called to move back into the property. Neither story makes sense if VG tried to sue her. I was told these stories before I made an issue out of the damages.
