DO NOT WORK WITH UIC - Building a house with UIC was the worst experience of my entire life. The design phase went well, but it was all downhill from there. Once construction began, I noticed errors left and right. Windows would be missing, doors and walls were in the wrong place, etc. I had to micromanage them to get the house built correctly, because they did not notice the errors. For instance, I had five mirrors to be installed, and 4/5 were installed in the wrong rooms! They pushed my closing back seven times, from mid December all the way to late April, making planning my move nearly impossible. But the worst all happened after I moved in. The punch list at closing had over 30 items on it. After moving in, I noticed the poor quality of the house and parts of the house were a
I closed on my house on McRee Avenue just after the beginning of Covid. Although communication could have been kept up despite the pandemic, it was nonexistent. I had made complaints about simple, carpeting seams and unwarranted indications of wear and tear on the carpeting as well, and three years later, I am still complaining. The defects were acknowledged by the UIC superintendent at that time who, not surprisingly, works there no more. It seemed professional and upright during the early phases of planning and early construction; however, once the last nail was almost pounded in, crickets. I still do not have a covering where my linoleum meets my back door. Shoddy. Incompetent. UIC.
I completely agree with the other 1- and 2-star reviews here. I’m adding my own review to reinforce others’ advice to NOT work with UIC. If you do, all I can say is buyer beware and proceed at your own risk. I could write dozens of pages chronicling their lack of professionalism, sub-standard workmanship, and unethical business practices. I’ve shared these details on other forums and through word of mouth and will continue to do so. I am not alone. Just about every neighbor I have met who lives in a UIC home has done the same. I’m giving them 1 star only because they have unique and interesting designs. However, that doesn’t amount to much if you don’t know how to run a business and fail to execute. A promised 6–8-month build turned into a two-year saga of stress and frustration, with UIC
The homes are very appealing aesthetically. They offer modern charm and updated technology. They are a bit overpriced compared to Habitat for Humanity homes which offer the same things. The amount of building is nice for development of the St. Louis area but also nerve racking to hear the noise every morning and to see the trucks in front and back of your home. There are a lot of small children in this area and drilling etc starts at about 7am. There is one worker who is constantly whistling early in the morning and that's inconsiderate to the people who live around the building sites. The woman who showed the house I saw was very nice and professional and covid conscious. There are pros and cons but overall the homes look nice.
Can't even pay their workers union benefits!! Sham of a company. They will tell you they use union help- all scabbed out. SOOOOOO glad my husband left this "construction" company. Check the neighborhood reviews- this company is looked down upon by everyone from the union, the neighbors, the buyers ALL the way down to their workers.
