The Taft Apartments

Honestly loved my stay here. Highly safe and secure. I didnt take advantage of the area it's nestled in, when you really should as there are events constantly happening in SoFa and the convention center. Staff are attentive and professional at all times. Sure their parking situation isn't without its flaws but its a unique system. They are responsive in punishing rule breakers and getting the car lifts fixed within 24 hrs, with compensation. My only actual gripe would be the cleanliness of shared spaces between other residents. Their private gym is lovely but I genuinely lost count on how many times another resident would leave their weights racked, attachments hooked, medicine balls left around, or overcomplicated hip thrust configuration left in place. I have been here since 2024, and honestly have nothing but positive feedback for Alaric and the rest of the staff. My floor is quiet, the apartments are good quality, and the maintenance team is very responsive whenever I need something looked at. I love the access to downtown. It's a good sweet spot for me because it isn't far from the restaurant or bars but also not annoyingly close to the point where you would have to deal with traffic and people. For being downtown in a recently constructed building, I think the rental rates are competitively priced. The amenities I use the most like the gym and rooftop grills are clean. I recommend this place if you are looking to live downtown!

I lived here for about a year and a half, and my experience during that time was great. However, I moved out two months ago and still haven’t received my security deposit. During my pre-inspection with Alaric Hill, he confirmed that the unit was in great condition and that I would receive my full deposit. I also had the unit professionally cleaned before moving out and barely used any of the appliances (I never even used the oven). Since then, I’ve emailed the office four times and called over 50 times, but my calls never go through and I haven’t received any response.

We moved in Taft Aug 2022 and left due to work location. We had a very positive experience. Trevar Saunders & Alaric Hill were very helpful and accomodating in helping me take care of my family dog, Poppy. Trevar would bring her own treats to feed Poppy and would give advice whenever asked. The apartments are beautiful. Although the square footage is not that high, the layout and big windows make it feel more spacious. The amenities are amazing, especially the rooftop. I'd take Poppy to the rooftop everyday to watch the sunset. It is my favorite memory from San Jose. The only downside is the parking is tight - but that is common in Downtown San Jose.

From the very first tour to move-in day, the entire process was seamless and welcoming. Even when we faced an unexpected challenge - a flood from our neighbor - the team handled everything with impressive organization and care. What could have been a stressful ordeal turned into a positive experience, thanks to their swift action and thoughtful approach. It’s rare to find a team that genuinely cares about its residents, but at The Taft, you truly feel that sense of community.
