I've lived here for about 5 years and love it! Casey and her team are absolutely amazing, and her kindness and support have been one of the main reasons I keep re-signing my lease. It's difficult to find housing in the city where management actually cares and works diligently to help out when issues arise. Maintenance is also amazing and typically fixes any problems the same day (also very rare in Richmond), if not by the next day. Love those guys! Really great job staffing the Penny and I hope it continues that way! The one thing I would change is that they work the deposit into the monthly rent. This means you don't get a deposit back at the end, and you also have higher rent each month because of it. It would be great and a show of compassion for the community if they gave residents an
The penny was an AMAZING apartment to live in. The apartments are beautifully finished, hardwood floors, beautiful countertops, no bugs EVER, balcony, lots of natural light. I mean just gorgeous apartments. And the price was so reasonable too! The pool is lovely, the gym is nice, office staff is a saint. One month, due to a family emergency, my rent was late. They were gracious enough to knock off the late fees for me, such understanding team! The ONLY downside is how expensive the parking garage is. It was $125 per month when I was there, but thankfully there is a lot up the street that I was able to pay less and park at. Otherwise, I had an amazing time living at the penny. It’s very quiet to be in the fan area, too!
The black young lady in the front desk was extremely rude to me. I was visiting my friends apartment and I went down to get my food. When I asked her for a pass because I didn’t have one on me, she told me to wait in the lobby for no reason. Keep in mind she has seen me many times. After waiting for an hour I told her she has seen me many times and she knows I’m not a stranger. After waiting an hour and more she finally let me go through and told me she didn’t let me through because I might be dangerous?? This was by far one of the worst interactions I had with front desks. Please learn from this.
I wanted to like this complex… units are beautiful and nice amenities but the smell on every floor but the lobby from valet trash & pets is intolerable. I scheduled a tour, which no one was there for. Someone from the office arrived 20 min later who was not expecting me but graciously took me on a tour. After the tour there was no follow up and when I tried to contact them everyday for weeks straight there was no response. If you can’t respond or give requested information to prospective tenants it was a concern of mine that upon move in they would essentially ghost me or not care if I needed assistance or maintenance arose. Nice people in the office and nice units but between the smell and lack of communication I’m out. Also what’s up with all these little monthly fees🤔
I've had a really positive living experience at The Penny and would highly recommend it, after living here for 3 years. It's a perfect location for VCU graduate students -- walking distance to VCU medical campus, in a central location, and close enough to the freeways that going anywhere is pretty convenient. The apartments are beautiful, clean, and well-maintained. I appreciate the secure access key fobs, secure package room, free coffee. The pool does get pretty loud in the summer though and sometimes the doors are left open. Management is extremely responsive whenever I've had questions/concerns - ie I remember one time I asked to have a trash can replaced, they brought it up within minutes of my email! Overall, I would highly recommend living here and decided to continue leasing here
