The Hiawatha

My fiancée and I have lived twice at The Hiawatha: March 2020 - August 2021, and Dec 2022 - present. We think this is hands-down the best address in Portland! The best part of living at The Hiawatha is Property Manager Nick and his friendly staff, who are always standing by to attend to our every need. Thank you, Nick!

Nice building, good management, but the electric bill for my unit is unbelievably high. My bill for a one-bedroom apartment is roughly 200 dollars a month consistently every month, and this is not specific to my unit. If you factor this in to other costs associated with living in this building, like parking for example, it really adds up and makes the cost of living substantially higher than the advertised rent prices. It is something to consider if you are evaluating moving in to this building.

Don’t move into this building! The property managers suck at their jobs, if you have a dog that barks or whines they’ll give you a notice even though my neighbors dogs when I lived here barked all day and all night long. There’s a dude in unit 712 who roams the building after 8pm naked and pleasuring himself in the hallways. The south garage is always wide open letting in the homeless who have free range around the stairs cause they have no fob locks to get into the staircase. Redfern properties is a scam when I had problems in the building their property managers blocked my number, also if you go to the property managers face to face with problem they won’t do anything, what’s the point of having an office if when I come and tell you about things you won’t do anything because I didn’t sen

Admittedly I’m a bit disappointed with the building overall. While being in Portland is great, the benefits of living at the Hiawatha are not worth the costs. Parking is not ideal as it’s an entire block away and still hundreds of dollars a month- making grocery hauls and basic to/from your apartment especially difficult particularly in the winter. The trash room is constantly filled, the mail room is frequently confusing, and the extra fees in internet and electric bills are laughably unreasonable. A small apartment is roughly $200 /month in electric bills- more than the 2,800 square foot home I grew up in by more than two times the amount.
