The Grove, a Linden Community

I have been under my property for 4 years and have experienced maintenance lack the proper safety precautions that they were supposed to insure the residents get. I have reached out on a few occasions verbally and physically to my property. On the 23rd of June, when I came home my ceiling in my kitchen was leaking from the light fixture. I called emergency maintenance and they told me that it was not considered an emergency but they will put in a ticket. On June 24th, due to them not showing up the day/night prior when the call was placed, I contacted the city of Newport News and spoke with Shelly and she provided me with a report number and came out that day. Vanessa (the manager) will let you live there without being on the lease! She let me do it for 2 years! Unfortunately, she has a huge ego so when I brought issues to her attention, she refused to ever speak with me because “I wasn’t on the lease” which is kind of crappy. She told me what to put and what not to put on the application. The actual lease holder was out of state and Vanessa knew that. It was only me in that apartment. She HATES doing her job and puts everyone off to the side. At one point, we even had no maintence staff at these apartments. By the way, call 311 on them if they aren’t tending to your maintence needs! The city will intervene and make sure stuff gets done. Emergency maintenance calls (after hours) are ignored. I moved in the grove in February… since I have moved in it’s been pure hell. From the ac going out that took days to fix to neighbors harassing me and getting the apartment complex office leasing manager to knock on my door because they are friends or family etc. My kids are on my lease. They purposely moved me into an apt where someone has a problem with hearing any little noise. Half the time she complained about times when no one was in the house. The apts are decent but need a lot of work. There are roaches… the office staff is very unprofessional. Since one person left the office everything has been downhill. They never answer the phone but somehow the office lady is always on the phone. I went on vacation for a week in April and came back and it looked like someone slept in my bed. I

If you seen the movie Joe’s apartment that is the exact Living experience, I should not be coming in my house and roaches are doing cartwheels and having twerk contest on my kitchen counter 😒………. and this is a renovated apartment mind you……

Absolutely horrible, my daughter resides out there and they way they handle there tenants is mind blowing. My daughter has been complaining for a while for different maintenance request with no one getting back to her. We'll unfortunately back in June she called the emergency maintenance number to report her ceiling leaking out of the light fixture in her kitchen. No one came out that night I called the city the next day they came out took pictures and I assume got in touch with someone in the office. Later that evening they sent someone over he looked at it and told my daughter he would return, he never did. Yesterday on 07/12/2025 my daughter heard a loud noise waking her from her sleep at 5 in the morning walked in the front room to see her ceiling had completely collapsed in her living
