The Gotham

I’ve had such a great experience living at The Gotham in Jersey City. The building is beautiful, well maintained, and the staff is always professional and welcoming. One of my favorite things about living here is the monthly lobby events — they really go above and beyond to create a sense of community. This month’s flower bar event was especially amazing. It was such a thoughtful and creative touch, and it made the whole building feel warm and inviting. It’s little details like that that really set The Gotham apart from other buildings. Highly recommend living here if you’re looking for a place that not only looks great but actually makes an effort to create a great resident experience.

The apartment itself was great to stay at and everyone was friendly. Gotham is not a new building and not a luxury building so it has it's own issues when you move in. The management was not great when we were leaving. We took excellent care of our unit and have never had a deposit withheld anywhere else from renting, they kept our deposit for normal wear and tear on the floors. As landlords ourselves, we know this is not a valid reason to keep a tenant’s money. This shows a lack of fairness and transparency — just beware before renting here.

Lived here for 2 years. In general I’m ok with my experiences. The elevators are very quick. Common areas are clean. Majority of the doormans and maintenance crews were nice. Maintenance requests often got resolved quickly. Bear in mind that it’s not a new building. We lived on the 4th floor and had cockroaches and mice issues. The mice issue was resolved after the exterminators came (but we had to nudge and follow up a few times after filing for maintenance requests) but after a few months they came back. When we moved out they charged $300+ repair fees for our floors which I think should be normal wear and tear but I was very busy at the time so I didn’t bother to argue and just paid for it.

The building didn’t conduct the move-out inspection until seven days after I moved out of the apartment, and they claimed over $400 in floor repair damages without my presence. I’ve been waiting to hear back from them for more than two months, but no one has responded to my emails. It’s been a very frustrating move-out experience.
