The Barlow at Kalorama Park

UIP property management has withheld me and my roommates' $4700 security deposit since an early October move-out date of The Barlow. We have email acknowledging that they would pay it back in full and they have refused to answer any follow up communications.

Property: Newly renovated with updated appliances. The appliances are dysfunctional and lack some of spare parts. It is a basement apartment, while efforts were made to ensure enough natural light, the growth of flora kept by the management interfere with that light. The need for the management to water these plants has caused windows to cake up with dirt from watering subsequently blocking out light again. There is issues of dampness as well. Management: The management is very very poor. There is absolutely no response whatsoever to address issues. However, I have had very good luck with Mr. Brustow, the leasing manager and Mr.McCluney, the maintenance manager who are really responsive. My roommate and I toured two of UIP’s properties recently, including The Barlow, with their wonderful leasing consultant, Sabrina. She was thoughtful and prepared and incredibly passionate about the units. It was clear they took the entire living experience in mind during the recent renovation, and the building was very well kept and thought out. We met several other UIP staff who were all friendly and attentive, and look forward to working with them. We can’t say enough positive things about Sabrina!

Horrible leasing experience. No real information, defensive or unknowledgeable leasing agents and super hard to get a hold of anyone through phone or email!!! Also an additional NON REFUNDABLE $400 fee just to apply with no guarantee of whether you will get approved or not - on top of the $50 application fee.

I'm not even sure if this place is legitimate? I scheduled a tour and it was impossible to get into the building, nobody was there to let us in or to meet us outside. I called more than 20 times, emailed, chatted with the AI bot, and even that doesn't respond after 1 text message. So unprofessional.
