Schenley Apartments

We lived a Schenley for three and a half years. The location was great and we enjoyed the other tenants. Our biggest challenge was the infrastructure. We paid extra for a room that leaked every time there was a big rain storm. The request for repairs were ignored. That was frustrating because we couldn't use the room that we were paying extra for. Because of that we moved to another apartment. One night at about three in the morning we heard a large crash - the ceiling had collapsed and water was streaming into the bedroom - again from a rain storm. A large chuck of the ceiling landed in the room. Thankfully we weren't sleeping under the part that had collapsed or we could have been injured. It took several weeks to get the damage repaired without any compensation. On top of tha

They have a new building manager who is very proactive. Her follow up has been immediate. You are supposed to put in maintenance requests through an online system but see her around so often that I just talk to her and she gets the workers in and gets the job done. The person next to me plays an instrument and I can here them practicing when I'm in the building hallway but not through our shared wall. There are individual HVAC units mounted to the ceilings in each room so you can control the heating and cooling well. My only negative is the dryer takes longer to dry clothes than I'd like. The handyman suggested I keep the door to the washer/dryer closet open when I'm using the dryer and that has helped a lot.

We lived there for three years. The paint on our cabinets started peeling off due to how insanely humid it was inside the apartment and they never bothered fixing it after more than a year of requests. The workout area is nice, but they don't maintain anything there. Same with the other amenities, like the dog washing station (didn't work), the bikeshare (unused bikes with flat tires and locks that none of the security staff ever seem to have keys to), the luggage carts (falling apart), the movie theater (a low quality projector that's barely ever used to show films). It's a shame, because this place could be so much more if the management cared about making it a good community space. I'm complaining about luxuries, sure, but you're paying a premium price to live here.

I've lived at the Schenley for over a year. This is the best complex I've ever lived in. Beautiful and interesting building and units. Extremely well maintained and managed. Surprisingly quiet. Very walkable and safe area of Pittsburgh. I hardly ever use my car. The gym has everything you need and more if you're a fitness junkie like me. They even have Peloton bikes. No regrets whatsoever.

Unfairly charged high rent for basement apartment. 2 rooms are 2 different size not fair for 2 roommates who equally share rhe costs. Messed up utility bills. They need an overhaul in the management of this apartment. They are not efficient.
