Royal York Apartments

I lived here for a year, and overall it is a lovely apartment. On the downside, some people continue to smoke outside despite this being a smoke-free building. They gather at the entrances or nearby the building, the smoke easily drifts into your apartment and is hard to get rid of, especially if you like to keep your windows open. The apartment had a problem with silverfish or similar bugs crawling on the floor, and there were many of them. When notifying tenants of rent increases for the next year, management only gave about two weeks’ notice, which was very short and sudden. The heating in winter is excessively strong, making it difficult to sleep. I am shocked by all these negative reviews. I've lived in the Royal York for almost 2 1/2 years and love it. The apartments are spacious and bright (especially if you have south-facing windows. They actually seem to be in the process of remodeling the units and there are a mix of newly remodeled units that are very nice but also some that haven't yet been remodeled. The closets are huge too. The building is also quiet (granted I'm hearing-impaired and probably don't hear every noise that occurs). Common are also kept clean and in good shape and they are regularly undertaking projects to improve those areas. They also generally respond quickly to maintenance requests and other inquiries. Really a nice place to live.

I studied in Pittsburgh for two years, I’ve scheduled 20+ apartment tours around Pittsburgh Shadyside and north Oakland area, and this is the perfect apartment for me. It has high ceilings, wood floors, an abundance of natural light, and a huge space. Most importantly, the bathroom has windows, which prevents it from getting moldy. I saw other reviews mentioning rat issues, but I haven't seen any in my two years here. Additionally, I really appreciate the maintenance staff. They are very responsive and helpful, always coming to fix problems within one or two days after I file a ticket. On the other hand, whenever I schedule the freight elevator, the staff helps me a lot. They provide many tools to help me move my furniture onto the truck. I will miss our apartment here

I lived in the Royal York for a year and a half and had nothing but good experiences. The door guys are uniformly awesome; idiosyncratic maybe, but all of them have been good friends during my time there. They are quick to attend to repairs. The apartment has been comfortable and in good shape. Okay, the heat is a little hard to control and made it hard for my girlfriend to sleep in the winter. The laundry is a big hike down to the first floor, down the hall, down some stairs. The shower drain clogs every few months. BUT the roof has one of the best views in the city. The lobby is attractive and well-kept. My apt at least is spacious and welcoming. Patty, the current manager, has always been great with any problem I've had.
