Before Covid, Peloquin seemed like a half-decent landlord. Fairly hands-off, mostly older/cheaper units. Pay your rent on time and don't mess around and you're good. Then, in June/July of 2020—you remember, the huge health and economic catastrophe that left people struggling—they jacked up rents on ALL of their properties by $200 a month, a 15–20% increase relative to the starting rent for most of their units. Mind you, these are units people choose because they're cheap. Old units with poor insulation, bad windows, and fixtures from the 1970s. Lots of fixed incomes, elderly folks, and disabled people living in these units, and Peloquin knows it. After the big jump in 2020 they've raised rents again and again and again. Ima at Peloquin has the worst customer service I have ever know!! She is so rude to put it nicely!! Attitude and disrespectful!! Doesn’t handle criticism well at all!! Not to mention, I cleaned my place before leaving and I was still charged $300 for a cleaning since I didn’t have it professionally cleaned and shampooed!! Are you kidding me? I gave it to them clean and like any normal company, they do their own cleaning too. New tenants also clean, if they are clean people. I lived there for about 10 yrs. Of course they going to have to do some touch ups. It should not rest on me to have it professionally done for the new tenant!! My new place needed some cleaning and I did that. We rented an apartment from them back in 2011 for about 3 years. It was an old Victorian house in pretty poor condition, but it also had a lot of character to it and we made it work well. You could see through the floor boards into the basement, the wall insulation was probably way outdated, the windows were the original ones that were probably put in when the house was build over 100 years ago, and the parking situation was horrible as all tenants of the 4 unit home were crammed down one single lane driveway. It wasn't the most comfortable in the winter and when the wind picked up, you could feel it in the living room. All that aside, those aren't really my big complaints. If you're new to the area don't bother. I looked at two apartments, explained that I had recently moved from out of state and started a new job, and was still given an application and told to apply. What I should have been told was that if I try to submit an application the people in the office will basically laugh in my face. Showings are easy because the apartments just sit empty.
