Mason at Van Dorn Apartments

This is beyond unacceptable — it’s negligent. After this past weekend’s snowstorm, Mason Van Dorn Apartments completely failed to take basic, legally expected steps to keep the property safe. No workers were hired to shovel or salt walkways or staircases, and days later, many areas are STILL icy and dangerous. To make matters worse, management sent out an email claiming the situation was being handled. That was a flat-out lie. MY HUSBAND AND I had to shovel our own stairs just to safely leave our apartment. The main walkways remain untreated. This property has seniors, many dog owners, and residents who must walk these paths daily. People are slipping and sliding while management does absolutely nothing. Do not rent here! If I could I would give Mason at Van Dorn less than 1 star. First, I would like to note that all of the positive reviews are about specific people not the complex itself. This is because after every maintenance request you will be given a card that asks you to review the maintenance staff member however the QR code will bring you to the Google review page for the complex. The rating of Mason at Van Dorn is misleading due to this. All of the one-star ratings are detailed and mention the same/similar issues. Additionally, the City of Alexandria is now investigating Mason at Van Dorn for several reasons including some of which I will list below. The elevator has been broken for 6 WEEKS. Resident services won’t answer my calls so this is my next step. Do not move here. Please trust me, this place is terrible. So. Many. Problems. Edit after the response: you can assist me by fixing the elevator. If you are committed to addressing these concerns, make our lives a priority. Fix the elevator.

Our daughter has been a tenant at this property since the summer of 2024. Her experience has been a positive one. She has found the updated and varied amenities to be a real plus in living here. Maintenance staff have been very courteous and requests regarding issues or repairs have been responded to quickly and followed through to completion. The newly painted buildings present a very appealing look and a bonus is that the building hallways are free of debris and cleaned regularly. Upcoming projects to be done within the development and status updates are communicated well and regularly. The residential office staff have been very pleasant and accommodating. This apartment complex is a disaster. Upon moving in, my apartment was infested with roaches. After informing property management, they attempted to have pest control deal with the issue. I also took my own preventative measures but nothing seemed to work. A week after moving in, I experienced two leaks that took them a week to come and fix. Water damaged my belongings. All the while, the roaches persisted. My leasing agent reassured that all holes in the wall were patched, however they are not. Janese the property manager is not helpful.
