I decided to revoke my signature on the lease after speaking to a lawyer who firmly told me that this did not sound like a safe situation for me. He would randomly call me and my prospective housemates and berate us, demanding we pay our deposits and first months' rent in the next two days, contradicting the due dates written on the lease. He refused to put anything in writing, which is something a landlord will likely do if trying to avoid legal liabilities -- I emailed him several times when he started to make me uneasy and he did not reply to a single one of my emails.
