I was looking for a contractor to do some paperwork for a completed landscape project per the county’s request. DFM proposed a lump sum of $1250 for the paperwork plus hourly-based charges for unexpected work (potential additional work) if the outcome of the project did not meet the county requirement and they need to revise the paperwork. Initially, I counteroffered a lump sum of $2000 to include the potential revisions and explained that this should work better for them because the landscape project was completed with good quality and there should be little revision work even if any. I had a similar experience as this prior review. Our GC hired DFM to ensure that our extensive new construction stormwater management system was in compliance with Arlington County's requirements. They quoted me $1250 lump sum and estimated another $750 in hourly expenses for follow-on work. They were tasked with performing inspections, submitting them to the county and ensuring the county green lights our system. They completely bungled this process, causing their submissions to be rejected 2x by the county. Only after a third submission did the county pass our system. Afterwards, I got a bill from DFM for $4800!! I explained to them that not only did they quote $1500-2000, but in fact their bungling of the submissions to the county caused us to have several MONTHS delay in getting a fin
