City Title Agency

This is the worst title company I have worked with throughout the five real estate transactions I have completed. I asked for a closing cost estimate five times in two weeks and still never received one despite assurances from Melanie Mauk that one was forthcoming. In addition, although the sale was a cash transaction, City Title took an inordinate amount of time to complete the transaction. I highly recommend avoiding this company at all costs. There are much more efficient title agencies out there, with improved customer service.

BEWARE. I just found out that my parents had $200 in escrow with City Title from a transaction that took place in 2006. The funds were for a water/sewer holdback on the sale of their residence. City Title never contacted my parents about the funds after 2006 (the transaction date). We just found out about it this year. By law, City Title should have sent the "unclaimed funds" to the State of Ohio in 2011. City Title did not do this. In 2014, according to the owner of City Title (I just got off of the phone with him), the State of Ohio conducted on audit on their business and forced them to send the money to the State's Unclaimed Funds Department. According to the owner, he was also fined $1,800 for failing to comply with Ohio law relative to unclaimed funds. Title companies are paid
