Better

I love Better.com for my mortgage needs. This is the third time I’ve worked with Better.com, and they have consistently offered very competitive rates compared to other lenders. I’ve worked with Justin No on multiple occasions, and he is an extremely knowledgeable loan consultant. He is patient and thorough in explaining the process and guiding me through every step. He was always available whenever I had questions. I would be happy to work with him again for my future mortgage financing needs and would definitely recommend Justin No.

At first I was super happy about this company. They linked up with Credit Karma and it looked like I could get a really good rate, the buy down was relatively inexpensive and I could wrap it all back into the loan. I spoke with someone who confirmed and then I paid a $500 dollar “rate lock” fee. Then it all went down hill. When it came down to it the numbers were not what was advertised. The loan officer was argumentative. The loan discloser figures never made sense. The original numbers which seemed amazing never appeared. The process and numbers just got worse and worse. At the end of a month, the numbers never added up, the refi didn’t go through and I didn’t get my $500 dollars back. I supposed to they have a right to lend to whoever they want however, it was made known from the beginning that I was moving from another city and would be working at a job new location. Three days before closing they sent me an email that their policy was not to lend to anyone changing job locations. Thankfully, I was able to find a company to close quickly, but because of this, I had to stay with friends and pay for storage as I had already rented my current home to tenants. I will never use this company again.

Better Mortgage charges relatively high lender fees (lender mortgages at Credit Union are only $995 and have no points), and require customers to pay extra for points (which increases closing costs). When will Better Mortgage change its policies to save customers on closing costs?
