I was bidding on an item represented by Bergren and was bid up by another participant by more than $10,000. After letting them win it, I found out the next day that the winning bidder was actually the original owner of the item! According to him, Bergren allows this practice. Seller-involved (or “shill”) bidding is widely regarded within the auction industry as a fraudulent practice when it is not fully disclosed to other bidders. I’m sharing my experience so others can make informed decisions if they choose to bid on items represented by Bergren. Based solely on what I encountered, I would personally exercise caution when doing business with them — whether in auctions, equipment sales, or anything else.
I feel I could call for information only and get an honest answer. They are on top of the going rates and courteous. Very straight talk, you know where one stands.
