Bates Hill Apartments

Unapologetically boring--and I think that's fantastic. The apartments themselves are what you'd expect from being near campus. Cheap but functional appliances, basic decor, poor caulking and the likes. But the best thing about living here is what it doesn't have. Drama. I've never had to beg for maintenance--most requests were fixed within 48 hours. I've never had to deal with mold, bugs, Chesterfield rats or water issues like you might encounter with some slumlords. No loud neighbors. No stolen packages. The AC/heating takes a week or two to switch but it still works in the end. The only real negative has been the constant road noise. Get an apartment facing away from Bates if you can help it. Other than that living here has been stress free. As for anyone renting here: choose Xfinity

Very well maintained for an apt building in Oakland… 90% college students. Parking on site, but for an additional fee. Maintenance is quick, laundry on each floor, and building is secured by using key fobs.

Shoddy is an understatement. Considering I deal with allergies, I like to have the temperature reasonably low. However, the air was shut off October 5th, even though it is clearly still 80 degrees outside. Poor management, and now the tenants are paying the consequences. I do not recommend.

I have liked my time here, but they turn the air off so early, and they turn it on so late, its ridiculous. If you ask they to put it back they give horrible excuses. Its a decent place to live for price but you cant just turn the air off like this.
